What is the provisional school advice?<\/h3>\n

The provisional school advice is the advice from the primary school for the next education. Your child gets this between 10 and 31 January. To determine this advice, the school looks at tests in the student monitoring system<\/a>. The work attitude and motivation of your child can also count. There are no legal rules for this. How a school counts these things can differ per school. Schools must write in the school guide how the group 8 school advice is made and inform parents and pupils actively about this.<\/p>\n

From provisional to final advice<\/strong><\/h3>\n

After the provisional advice, your child takes the secondary school transition test. If the advice from this test is higher than the provisional advice, the primary school adjusts the advice. If the school does not do this, the school must have a good reason. Which secondary school should I look at with my child?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Often schools give a first idea of the provisional advice at the end of group 7 or start of group 8. This advice is also called pre-advice or viewing advice. This way you know which schools you can look at with your child. Schools may only give an official provisional advice between January 10 and 31.<\/p>\n

Guidelines for school choice<\/strong><\/h3>\n

With the viewing or pre-advice, you and your child can already think about suitable secondary schools and visit open days. Wait to enroll your child for a secondary school until you have received a final school advice<\/a>. The primary school must give this at the latest on March 24, after the secondary school transition test. The final advice is leading and influences your child’s enrollment.<\/p>\n

Entrance test for group 7<\/strong><\/h3>\n

From the 2023\/2024 school year, children in group 7 no longer make a separate entrance test. However, there is the E7 test from the student monitoring system.<\/p>\n

The result shows which continuing education after group 8 suits your child best. This is an estimate for the advice the school will give in group 8. Schools often call this the pre-advice or viewing advice.<\/p>\n

Disagree with the provisional school advice<\/strong><\/h3>\n

You may not agree with the provisional school advice. Then, preferably together with your child, discuss this with the school. It can help to share your wishes and expectations with the teacher and think together about the options.<\/p>\n

Mention any personal circumstances that have affected your child’s performance.
