There are ten different profiles, except for vmbo-theoretische leerweg where students can choose from four profiles. The profile choice in vmbo affects the follow-up education. A profile consists of a common part, a profile part, and a free part.","inhoud":"<h3>The common part<\/h3>\n<p>All children follow the subjects from the common part. These are Dutch, English, social studies, physical education, and one art subject (visual arts, music, dance, or drama).<\/p>\n<h3>Vmbo-theoretische leerweg: profile part and free choice<\/h3>\n<p>Students in the vmbo-theoretische leerweg choose one of four profiles:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Technology: mathematics and physics and chemistry.<\/li>\n<li>Care and welfare: biology and a choice of mathematics, geography, history or social studies 2.<\/li>\n<li>Economics: economics and a choice of French, German or mathematics.<\/li>\n<li>Agriculture (green): mathematics and a choice of physics and chemistry or biology.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>They also choose two subjects in the free part. DUO has <a href=\"https:\/\/duo.nl\/particulier\/vakkenpakket-voor-het-staatsexamen.jsp\">a clear overview<\/a> of the required subjects for vmbo-theoretische leerweg.<\/p>\n<h3>Vocational profiles<\/h3>\n<p>Students in vmbo-basis, vmbo-kader, and vmbo-gemengde can choose from ten profiles, with related profile subjects. Each profile has two compulsory general subjects and one vocational profile subject. This profile subject includes theory and practice. Students in vmbo-basis and vmbo-kader follow four modules of the profile subject. Students in the mixed learning path follow two modules. The ten profiles are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/nieuwvmbo.nl\/bovenbouw\/profielen\/economie-en-ondernemen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Economics and entrepreneurship<\/a>: the profile subject, general economics and a choice of a modern foreign language or mathematics.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/nieuwvmbo.nl\/bovenbouw\/profielen\/horeca-bakkerij-en-recreatie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hospitality, bakery and recreation<\/a>: the profile subject, general economics and a choice of a modern foreign language or mathematics.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/nieuwvmbo.nl\/bovenbouw\/profielen\/zorg-en-welzijn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Care and welfare<\/a>: the profile subject, biology and a choice of mathematics, geography, history or social studies 2.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/nieuwvmbo.nl\/bovenbouw\/profielen\/groen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Green<\/a>: the profile subject, mathematics and a choice of biology or physics (Nask 1)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/nieuwvmbo.nl\/bovenbouw\/profielen\/bouwen-wonen-en-interieur\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Building, living and interior<\/a>: the profile subject, mathematics and physics (Nask 1).<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/nieuwvmbo.nl\/bovenbouw\/profielen\/produceren-installeren-en-energie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Production, installation and energy<\/a>: the profile subject, mathematics and physics (Nask 1).<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/nieuwvmbo.nl\/bovenbouw\/profielen\/mobiliteit-en-transport\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mobility and transport<\/a>: the profile subject, mathematics and physics (Nask 1).<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/nieuwvmbo.nl\/bovenbouw\/profielen\/media-vormgeving-en-ict\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Media, design and ICT<\/a>: the profile subject, mathematics and physics (Nask 1).<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/nieuwvmbo.nl\/bovenbouw\/profielen\/maritiem-en-techniek\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maritime and technology<\/a>: the profile subject, mathematics and physics (Nask 1).<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/nieuwvmbo.nl\/bovenbouw\/profielen\/dienstverlening-en-producten\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Services and products<\/a>: the profile subject, two subjects from mathematics, physics (Nask 1), biology and general economics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Vocational elective subjects<\/h3>\n<p>In addition to the profile, a student in vmbo-basis or vmbo-kader also chooses four vocational elective subjects. A student in vmbo-gemengde chooses two. These subjects relate to the profile but can also belong to another profile. The school decides which elective subjects it offers. The school is not required to offer all vocational elective subjects. But the school must make sure students really have choices. Limiting the choice to four elective subjects is not enough. Some things are important for the choice:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Which subjects does the child like;<\/li>\n<li>In which subjects does the child get good grades;<\/li>\n<li>Which follow-up education does the child want or which direction does the child want;<\/li>\n<li>Which elective subjects does the school offer besides the profile.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The mentor can help with the profile choice in vmbo. A profile choice test can also help.<\/p>\n<h3>Follow-up education<\/h3>\n<p>The profile choice is important for follow-up education. For mbo education, specific prior knowledge is expected. A certain profile or subject can be required for admission to the education. It is wise to keep this in mind when choosing a profile.
