It is usually for pupils with a disability, illness, or disorder. Secondary special education is divided into four clusters. It prepares pupils for further education, a job, or day activities.","inhoud":"<h3>Four clusters<\/h3>\n<p>Just like in <a href=\"https:\/\/wp-staging.oudersenonderwijs.nl\/kennisbank\/passend-onderwijs\/\">special education<\/a> for pupils aged in primary school, secondary special education is divided into four clusters:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cluster 1: education for blind and visually impaired children.<\/li>\n<li>Cluster 2: education for deaf and hard of hearing children and children with severe speech and language problems.<\/li>\n<li>Cluster 3: education for children with physical or intellectual disabilities and long-term sick children.<\/li>\n<li>Cluster 4: education for children with severe behavioural problems and psychiatric issues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>What age?<\/h3>\n<p>Secondary special education is for children who finished primary school. Most children at secondary special education come from <a href=\"https:\/\/wp-staging.oudersenonderwijs.nl\/kennisbank\/passend-onderwijs\/naar-speciaal-basisonderwijs\/speciaal-onderwijs\/\">special education<\/a>, but children from <a href=\"https:\/\/wp-staging.oudersenonderwijs.nl\/kennisbank\/passend-onderwijs\/naar-speciaal-basisonderwijs\/speciaal-basisonderwijs\/\">special primary education<\/a> or regular education can also sometimes go to secondary special education. Most children start at school when they are between 12 and 14 years old. Your child can stay until the end of the school year in which they turn 20. Leaving school earlier is allowed if parents and the school agree.<\/p>\n<h3>What does your child learn?<\/h3>\n<p>Secondary special education has separate core goals. This means the lessons for pupils at secondary special education differ from regular education. The core goals describe what your child must know and do by the end of secondary school. The government set different learning goals for each exit profile. The school decides how to reach these goals. There are three types of core goals:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Core goals for school subjects like Dutch, English, maths, human and nature, technology, arts and culture, social studies, and sports.<\/li>\n<li>Cross-curricular core goals: these goals focus on your child&#8217;s functioning in society. There are four parts: learning to learn, learning to perform tasks, learning to function in social situations, and developing a personal future perspective.<\/li>\n<li>Preparation for leaving school: for the labour market-oriented exit profile, the school prepares your child for work. For the day activities exit profile, the school prepares for that.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Exit profiles<\/h3>\n<p>Every pupil at secondary special education has <a href=\"https:\/\/wp-staging.oudersenonderwijs.nl\/kennisbank\/passend-onderwijs\/ondersteuning-op-een-reguliere-school\/afspraken-over-begeleiding\/\">a development perspective plan<\/a>. This plan describes what the pupil can do now and what the school and parents expect the pupil to know and do when leaving school. The school also states an exit profile: what the school expects the pupil will do after finishing secondary school. There are three exit profiles:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Further education: your child can then get a diploma for mbo-1, vmbo, havo, or vwo.<\/li>\n<li>Labour market oriented: your child can then go to work. He or she gets a certificate after finishing the program.<\/li>\n<li>Day activities: your child goes to day activities after secondary school. For example, a care workshop, a care farm, or a place offering daytime care. Your child gets a certificate and a transfer document from school.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each secondary special education school must offer at least one exit profile. The SLO gives <a href=\"https:\/\/www.slo.nl\/sectoren\/vso\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">more explanation about the different exit profiles<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Getting a diploma<\/h3>\n<p>If your child has the exit profile for further education, they can get a diploma to continue learning. There are three ways:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-staging.oudersenonderwijs.nl\/kennisbank\/examens\/staatsexamen\/\">State exam<\/a>: the school registers your child. All exams happen at school. The state exam has a school exam and a central exam for each subject. Usually, the regular exam program is followed. Pupils can also register for one subject separately. Then your child can take the exam at their own pace.<\/li>\n<li>Partly outsourced to a regular secondary school or <a href=\"https:\/\/wp-staging.oudersenonderwijs.nl\/kennisbank\/examens\/volwassenenonderwijs-vavo\/\">the vavo<\/a>: also called extraneous. Pupils at secondary special education can take exams via adult general education (vavo) (see article 14b of <a href=\"https:\/\/wetten.overheid.nl\/BWBR0003549\/2020-04-01\">the Education act<\/a>). One condition is that the secondary special education school works closely with the adult education provider. This means part of the school plan is done by the adult vocational education institution. This rule applies to pupils 16 and older (article 13 of the <a href=\"https:\/\/wetten.overheid.nl\/BWBR0003848\/2014-08-01\">Educational decree Education act<\/a>). For pupils 18 and older, they can only do exams via vavo if their registration at secondary special education has not been interrupted.<\/li>\n<li>Some secondary special education schools can give exams themselves. Only schools with an exam license can do this.<\/li>\n<li>It is also becoming more possible to get an mbo-1 diploma at secondary special education. This can only be done partly outsourced to mbo.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Admission<\/h3>\n<p>To go to secondary special education, your child needs a Declaration of Admissibility from the Partnership Tailored Education.
