When is your child an out\u2011of\u2011school child?<\/span><\/b><\/h3>\n

If a child does not go to school for more than four weeks, we speak of an out\u2011of\u2011school child. Some children have been exempted from education. Others are registered at a school but cannot attend for various reasons. <\/span><\/p>\n

This can be because a child cannot go to school themselves, but also because the school does not feel able to have the child at school. Or they are on a waiting list for a school that does not yet have space. Finally, there are children not registered at a school without an exemption. The estimate is that there are at least 70,000 children in the Netherlands who do not go to school. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Hidden out\u2011of\u2011school children<\/span><\/b><\/h3>\n

There are also out\u2011of\u2011school children who are not visible because they do not appear in the statistics. This concerns children who do not follow a full educational program, are not welcome at school for an indefinite period, or whose long-term absenteeism is not reported.
