No national rules for food policy at schools<\/h3>\n

There are no national rules about what a school and the school participation council can agree on regarding healthy food at school. This is left to the school and the school participation council. The agreements apply to the whole school. Parents, children, and staff must follow them. The rules and agreements must be reasonable. It is good to leave room for exceptions, for example for pupils who must follow a special diet.<\/p>\n

Right of the school participation council to approve<\/h3>\n

The law says in article 10e that the school participation council has the right to approve setting or changing rules about safety, health, and welfare policy. Parents can ask the school participation council why they agreed to the food policy. The rules must be communicated clearly and on time to parents, for example in the school guide.<\/p>\n

Disagreeing with the rules and agreements<\/h3>\n

If parents do not agree with the policy, it is good to tell the school participation council. The council can put the topic on the agenda and discuss if the agreements still fit the school. They can then change the rules if needed.
\nParents can also talk with the director about the policy and the chance of an exception for their child.
