How can you be involved at school? And why is parent involvement actually so important?","inhoud":"<h3>What is parent involvement?<\/h3>\n<p>Parent involvement means you are active in your child&#8217;s school. You can do this in many ways: from keeping in contact with the teacher to helping with school activities. By <a href=\"https:\/\/wp-staging.oudersenonderwijs.nl\/kennisbank\/relatie-ouders-en-school\/samenwerking-school-en-ouders\/\">working together with the school<\/a> you give your child the feeling that you are part of school life.<\/p>\n<h3>Why is parent involvement important?<\/h3>\n<p>Parent involvement is important. When you are involved your child often feels safer and more supported at school. Your child can do better and enjoys school more.<\/p>\n<p>It also helps the communication between you and the school to run smoothly. This creates a pleasant cooperation and understanding on both sides.<\/p>\n<h3>How can you be involved in your child&#8217;s education as a parent?<\/h3>\n<p>There are many ways to be involved in the school and education of your child. For example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Support your child at home too:<\/strong> by reading, reading aloud or helping with homework you are involved in your child&#8217;s education. You know what your child is doing at school and show that you want to help.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Help with events:<\/strong> schools often organize activities like sports days, culture weeks or <a href=\"https:\/\/wp-staging.oudersenonderwijs.nl\/kennisbank\/school-organisatie\/activiteiten\/schoolreis-excursie-of-kamp\/\">school trips<\/a>. Parents who help with these make the days more fun for the children and help the school staff too.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Support in the classroom:<\/strong> many schools are happy with parents who come regularly to read aloud or help with math or language exercises.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Become class parent:<\/strong> as class parent you are the contact for teachers and mentors to parents. You can also help organize class outings or raise money for special projects.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Go to parent evenings:<\/strong> during parent evenings you stay informed about your child&#8217;s progress and the school&#8217;s plans. You also get a chance to ask questions or think about your child&#8217;s education.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Help with practical tasks:<\/strong> sometimes schools need parents for small jobs like maintaining the schoolyard, organizing a book market or fixing playground equipment.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Drop-in moments in the classroom:<\/strong> these are fun and very valuable moments to see how things go in the classroom.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Talk about school at home:<\/strong> by showing interest in what your child is doing at school, you show that school is important. This helps your child at school too.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Parent council or school participation council<\/h3>\n<p>Another way to be involved in your child&#8217;s education is by joining a school council. The school participation council or the parent council are good examples. In the parent council you can organize activities with other parents like school parties.<\/p>\n<p>Do you want to think along about <a href=\"https:\/\/wp-staging.oudersenonderwijs.nl\/kennisbank\/pesten-veiligheid-en-gezondheid\/fysieke-veiligheid\/schoolbeleid-over-veiligheid\/\">school policy<\/a>? Then the school participation council is an option. This way you get a good view of how your child learns and plays in the classroom.<\/p>\n<p>You can see this form of parent involvement as volunteering at school: helping at events, lending a hand at sports days or other tasks that create a nice atmosphere or fun moments at school.<\/p>\n<h3>A prize for parent friendliness<\/h3>\n<p>In 2024 Ouders &#038; Onderwijs celebrated 10 years. To mark this, we looked for the most parent-friendly schools in the Netherlands. Two winners came from this search: one primary school and one secondary school. We gave these schools an award.
