Hour norm<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The law requires schools to follow an hour norm. Pupils in primary education must receive 7,520 clock hours over 8 school years. For pupils in secondary education, the amount of education is set for each type: vmbo 3,700 hours, havo 4,700 hours and vwo 5,700 hours.<\/p>\n

Inspectorate<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Parents who think many lessons are canceled are advised by the education inspectorate to file a complaint at the school<\/a>. But what about registration? Where can parents go if they notice many lessons canceled at their child’s school? And more important: how can schools be held to the hour norm if it is not registered? When choosing the right approach to solve the problem, you can expect the minister to be informed.<\/p>\n

Minister<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Ouders & Onderwijs, together with the General Education Union and LAKS, think minister Slob is ignoring the problem and does not see what is going on. \u2018The problem is we only roughly know where the teacher shortage causes problems. No government agency registers it systematically,\u2019 write Lobke Vlaming (Ouders & Onderwijs), Jelmer Evers (General Education Union) and Pieter Lossie <\/i>(LAKS) in a opinion piece in AD<\/a>. \u2018Last year the House of Representatives adopted a motion to force the minister to show the teacher shortage. Almost a year later, nothing has happened. We are still in the dark,\u2019 the trio says.<\/p>\n

The General Education Union wants to map the complaints about class cancellations<\/a> soon. The union asks teaching staff, parents and pupils to report concerns via the General Education Union website.<\/p>\n
