Registration procedure school<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The registration procedure is not the same everywhere. Some secondary schools have their own registration procedure. After registration, the school decides if they admit your child. They will tell you this in writing. In some cases, the school can extend this period by 4 weeks. There are some cases<\/a> in which a school may refuse a student. Parents can register their child at multiple secondary schools at the same time.<\/p>\n

Regional registration procedure<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In some regions, central registration procedures apply. The dates when students hear about their admission vary greatly. The municipalities themselves provide more information about this. The procedures include the priority rules, if there will be a lottery, and what happens in case of a lottery. The rule is that this procedure must be clear and easy to find. This also applies to the next steps in case of a lottery. Lottery<\/strong><\/h3>\n

If too many students register, a school can hold a lottery among the registered students. Some students have priority, for example, because they come from a primary school with a certain education concept. But also if students already have a brother or sister at the school. Schools discuss after the lottery about the students they cannot place at the school of their choice.<\/p>\n

Students must have an equal chance to be selected. This also applies to students with additional support needs. Only after the lottery do schools check if students need extra support. With the introduction of Tailored Education, schools (primary and secondary) have a Duty of care for students with extra support needs. In the case of a lottery, the Duty of care applies only if the student who needs extra support is selected. If a student is not selected, the Duty of care does not apply.<\/p>\n

Objection<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Whether the school uses its own registration procedure, the region decides about lotteries, you can always object if there is a refusal. This can be if the procedure is not correct or if you disagree with the reason for refusal. The way to object is explained in the refusal message.
