The cabinet made the decision after advice from the Outbreak Management Team (OMT). The schools will remain closed at least until Monday 18 January. Schools will provide distance learning in the period after the Christmas holidays. Around 12 January, the situation will be reviewed again and there will be a decision whether they must stay closed longer.<\/p>\n
For emergency care of children of parents with a crucial profession, primary schools and childcare centers will stay open but limited. This also applies to vulnerable children. According to Minister Slob, it is up to the schools themselves to decide for which students this applies.<\/p>\n
Earlier this month, the House of Representatives called on the cabinet to see if schools could still open their doors on 11 January despite the lockdown. This was because of large educational delays among students who are already vulnerable. But according to the cabinet, there is no room for this. Minister Arie Slob said on Thursday he regrets the decision. ‘I would have liked it to be different,’ he said. ‘But opening earlier is not possible because the care system is still under too much pressure from the coronavirus.’<\/p>\n
