Koen, father of Just (8) and Sam (6) says about this: \u201cI find it important that my children are seen for who they are and that they get the attention they need. You can\u2019t expect that from a teacher with 32 children in the class.\u201d<\/p>\n

What do parents want with education?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Besides a maximum class size, parents also mainly agree on other topics. 84% of parents think a child should always be able to get the necessary extra lessons without extra costs, via the school. 84% of parents are against refusing children at schools because of religious or personal beliefs. Also, 79% of parents see advantages in offering a tailored diploma, where children at secondary school can follow subjects at a higher or lower level so they can also move on to further education \u2018tailored\u2019.<\/p>\n

There is still much to gain says Mohamed, father of Imane (13) and Sami (7): \u201cMy daughter is a star in math, but because of her dyslexia less good at languages. Now she goes to the mavo, while she could easily do math at vwo level. But she does not get that chance. Because of this, we as society will miss a star in math later. I really think that is a loss, for her but for all of us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Work, care and family<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Parents also have a clear opinion about work, care and family. 51% want a strip card at school with which they can use a number of free school days per year by themselves. 60% like a ministry for Youth and Family Affairs that focuses on education, youth and care. And 55% of parents think childcare should be free for four days.<\/p>\n

Margriet, mother of Lotte (6), Piet (3) and Bas (1) explains why she supports this: \u201cIf I get four days of childcare, I would immediately work more. Now the system is so difficult and does not promote working more. And combined with a strip card at school, that really helps me as a working parent.\u201d<\/p>\n

Special election guide for parents<\/strong><\/h3>\n

To help parents with their political choice, Ouders & Onderwijs and Stichting Voor Werkende Ouders developed a special election guide for parents. The election guide gives parents insight into the positions of political parties on education, upbringing, care and childcare. Parents fill in 20 statements and based on their answers they see to what extent their views match all political parties in the current Tweede Kamer and many new parties.<\/p>\n

3.3 million votes<\/strong><\/h3>\n

More than 3.3 million parents can vote next week. But what do they find important? And what concerns them? We went out on the street with a camera and microphone to ask parents.<\/p>\n
