Concerns about support in the classroom<\/h3>\n

Parents are mainly worried about the support for their child. A majority of parents is dissatisfied with that support. They give it an average grade of 5. In addition, one third of children have to wait more than half a year before help is arranged. Many parents also experience that they themselves have to fight for appropriate help for their child.<\/p>\n"},{"acf_fc_layout":"quote","quote_tekst":"We have had to fight hard for years. Parents insufficiently involved in development perspective plan<\/h3>\n

When extra support is needed, the school must create a development perspective plan: a plan detailing what the child needs and what the school will do. A quarter of the parents say this plan was not created. Of the parents whose child did have the plan, many report no consultation or agreement was sought. While it should have been.<\/p>\n

Parents more positive about help and conversation<\/h3>\n

At the same time, parents also see cautious improvements. About daily contact with school, 54% of parents are positive. In addition, awareness of parent and youth support points is increasing, so parents can get help sooner in the region.<\/p>\n

More expertise and smaller classes needed<\/h3>\n

Almost half of the surveyed parents think teachers do not get enough help to guide children well. Also, a majority thinks teachers need more expertise and that smaller classes are needed to offer tailored education support.<\/p>\n

In conversation with parliament members about tailored education<\/h3>\n

This afternoon, Ouders & Onderwijs organizes a meeting together with Parent association Balans<\/a>, Ieder(In)<\/a> and 17 other organizations about tailored education. During this meeting we will talk to parliament members about signals, experiences, bottlenecks, and possible solutions.<\/p>\n

On 27 May, the House of Representatives will debate the future of tailored education.
