Time for action: ‘Good education i sign for it’.

22 January 2020 News

The teacher shortage keeps getting worse, school staff feel a huge workload and extra support in class is impossible. Time for action. The magazine Ouders van Nu therefore starts the campaign 'Good education i sign for' to support the strikes in education on january 30 and 31.

Facts

The facts do not lie. This year 55,000 pupils in primary education have no teacher in class. Pupils get lessons from teachers without training and four-day school weeks are introduced. And inequality is increasing. The number of private schools rises, more schools ask for a very high parental contribution and parents choose paid tutoring.

Social rights

‘More and more parents in the Netherlands are worried about the quality of Dutch education. And rightly so! The shortage of qualified staff is growing fast and the quality of our primary education is under heavy pressure. It is no longer certain that our children get good education every day. While that is one of the social rights of Dutch society,’ says editor-in-chief of Ouders van Nu Hilde Tholen.

Petition and drawing

To join the action, parents can sign the petition on the website. Parents can also make a drawing of a hand together with their child and send it in. On thursday january 30 Ouders van Nu opens a pop-up class on the Hofplaats in The Hague and offers the petition and all hand-drawings from the children to the cabinet. Ouders & Onderwijs supports this action and calls on parents to join. Lobke Vlaming, director of Ouders & Onderwijs will also be present at the pop-up class on january 30.
