Another serious story about student transport. The Algemeen Dagblad reported last weekend that a five-year-old child was forgotten by a driver and forced to sit alone for hours in a taxi bus on a parking lot. There is much debate about the voluntary parent contribution. Since last year, the law has stated that children may never be excluded from activities such as school trips, even if parents cannot or do not want to pay the contribution. But what if the share of parents who do not pay is so high that extra activities are no longer possible due to lack of money? Then camps and school trips might not take place anymore. This seems to happen mostly at schools where children have parents with less money.

Following education is important for a child. It helps a child find a good place in society. Missing school often, for any reason, can cause a child to drop out completely. Furthermore, many parents want students to follow gym and citizenship together and want the transition between levels to improve. This causes already vulnerable students to arrive at school exhausted. These are worrying conclusions from a study by Ouders & Onderwijs among more than 500 parents of children who deal with it daily.
At some schools, there is still an obligation for parents to pay the parental contribution. This is shown by research from Leergeld Nederland reported by NRC. Parents can decide for themselves if they pay or not.

Students in special education often spend a lot of time getting to school. A travel time longer than an hour is no exception. 'Many children have already spent a day when they arrive at school' said our director Lobke Vlaming on the Radio-1 news Monday morning.
