Staat van de Ouder 2026: dealing with the digital world
For the Staat van de Ouder 2026, we collected parents’ opinions about education on digitalization in education. We asked parents their opinion about social media, screen time, digital skills at school, and AI.

Ouders & Onderwijs researches one or more themes every year that are current in education. In previous editions you read how parents view various themes such as the quality of education, the teacher shortage and school participation council.
Staat van de Ouder 2025 - broad research
The research shows that parents are worried about the quality of education, safety and the atmosphere in large classes. In classes of 26 students or more, students go to school less often with pleasure and feel less safe in the class.

Staat van de Ouder 2024 - ode to the parent
The negative image of parents does not do justice to the real situation: most parents are a great support for their children and for the school. Parents are generally very positive about the relationship with school. They gladly help with various activities and contribute to the school participation council. Are there points for improvement? Certainly. But one thing is clear: parents and education together achieve the best for all children. In this report, we pay tribute to all parents.

Staat van de Ouder 2023 - ode to the teacher
According to parents, the teacher determines the quality of education. They create the atmosphere in the classroom and the space to develop at one’s own pace. This quality is often good in primary education. However, parents with children in secondary education show a declining trend in appreciation of educational quality. In this report, we conducted a broad study on various themes.

Staat van de Ouder 2022 - to secondary education
All parents and students have to deal with it. The transition from primary to secondary education. There is still quite a lot to improve when it comes to the school advice and the final test. In addition, many parents experience that there is too little choice for secondary school. Finally, they do not support three-year broad first grades, in which children come together who are taught at all different levels.
