10 reasons why parents are important for education.

Parents are essential in education. Whether it is parents helping during lunch breaks, supporting in the school library, or joining the school participation council: parents are valuable. Why are parents so important? And what do parents do at their child's school?

1. Expert about your child

No one knows your child better than you. You have important information that can help the school make your child’s education the best it can be. You are the expert about your child. Together with the school, you create the best education for your child.

2. Trust in school results

Your child does better at school if they feel you trust what they do and can do at school. Combined with good teamwork between you and the teacher, this gives your child a safe feeling, which helps your child do well at school.

3. The very first teacher

Even before your child goes to school, you teach your child about many topics. This knowledge is a very important base for your child’s learning path. And this base is thanks to you as a parent.

4. Homework help

When homework needs to be done, you are ready. Whether it is reading aloud, helping with sums, planning Dutch assignments, or finding a good internship place: you can count on parents.

5. Indispensable volunteers

Did you know that parents help at school for an average of three hours per month? Parents are indispensable for schools. By helping at school activities, attending parent evenings, and being active in the parent council or school participation council, parents contribute to the daily running of every school.

6. A helping hand

School can sometimes be hard or stressful. Does your child have exams, homework, or other daily responsibilities at school? Then you are there to motivate and support your child. Also outside school hours, you give your child a helping hand. Did you know this support has a big positive effect on your child’s school results?

7. Confidence boost

Is your child unsure or stressed? You are the safe haven. Let parents cheer up their child and give them a boost of confidence.

8. Communication is key

Your child may not always clearly or dare to say what does not work or what could help to the teacher. Luckily you help with talking, asking, and discussing at school.

9. Choosing profiles, elective subjects or education?

Choosing a school, profile, or education is and stays difficult. Especially if your child does not yet know what seems fun. What does your child find interesting? What does your child want to become? What is your child good at? Together with parents, children discover their interests, hobbies, and passions.

10. Go parents go!

Did your child get a good grade on a hard test? Or did your child get a diploma with hard work, or just did something difficult? You cheer and support your child from the sidelines. How nice is that!
