Central registration week for secondary school has started.

25 March 2026 News

Is your child going to secondary school next school year? Then this is an important date to mark: the central registration week starts on 25 March 2026. During this week, all group 8 pupils register for secondary education.

When do you have to register your child?

The national registration week runs from 25 to 31 March 2026. In this period, you register your child at the secondary school of your choice.

It is good to know that the day you register within this week does not matter. Whether you register your child on the first or last day: everyone has the same chance of a place. You do not have to rush on the first day, but make sure you arrange it on time.

First the final school advice

Before you can register your child, you first receive the final school advice from the primary school. You will have received the final school advice by 24 March 2026 at the latest.

The school advice guides the registration and shows at what level your child can start, such as vmbo, havo or vwo.

What if you are late?

If you cannot register your child during registration week, your child cannot join the first placement round. This can affect the chance of a place at the school of first choice, because some schools may already be full.

In that case, contact the secondary schools in your area as soon as possible to see what is still possible.
