Lentekriebels: what can you expect as a parent?.

26 March 2026 News

During the Week of Lentekriebels, schools pay attention to relationships and sexuality. What is this about? What does your child learn this week? And what can you expect as a parent?

Why week of Lentekriebels?

Every school must give sexual and relational education. This applies up to and including the lower classes of secondary school. This is in the core goals of education. The core goals list all required subjects. Relationships and sexuality are included here.

At school, the teacher explains what is okay and what is not, how your child sets boundaries and treats others with respect. The school can decide how the lessons are given, as long as they suit your child’s age. The school can also decide if and which program they use. The Week of Lentekriebels is there to focus on this subject.

What does your child learn?

The topics during the Week of Lentekriebels match the age of your child and classmates. In lower classes, themes are friendship, family, and naming feelings. In higher classes, lessons continue with body changes and setting boundaries. You can ask the teacher in advance what topics will be discussed.

Your role as a parent

As a parent, you play an important role in teaching about relationships and sexuality. By having open talks at home, you share your values and help your child deal with them. Schools often tell you beforehand what the lessons will cover, so you can support this at home.

Starting the conversation

By paying attention to this subject at school and home, you help your child feel stronger and more resilient. It is not about discussing everything at once, but about starting the conversation. It is important your child feels safe to ask questions.

If you want to know more about the lessons at your child’s school, contact the teacher or the school. If you have other questions about the Week of Lentekriebels or your child’s education, contact our advice point.
