13% Of Schools Closed Today Due To Winter Weather.

One in eight schools works today with an adjusted schedule or does not give lessons at all. This is shown by a quick survey from Ouders & Onderwijs among parents in the Landelijk Ouderpanel.

The numbers

The survey shows that 4.3% of schools are completely closed today and that 8.3% work with a partial closure or an adjusted schedule. Many schools also took measures yesterday due to the winter weather. 6% of schools kept their doors closed and 9.2% worked with an adjusted schedule. However, the group of schools that take no measures is the largest. For 70.5% of schools, there are no special measures taken today.

Reactions from parents are mixed

The reactions from parents are mixed. Some parents see no problems with the winter weather and think schools close or adjust the schedule too quickly. Other parents think it is very irresponsible that children must go to school while there are unsafe traffic situations.

What parents agree on is that they want schools to make a decision in time. Then parents have more time to find a solution. Several parents said they only received a message yesterday when their child was already on the way to school.

551 parents with children in primary education, secondary education or mbo took part in this survey. The online research was done among parents in the Landelijk Ouderpanel.
