Schools switch to new schoolbook publisher.
More and more schools in the Netherlands are switching to a new publisher for their teaching materials. Reasons include rising costs of schoolbooks and growing concerns about sustainability. Traditional teaching methods often use so-called 'disposable books': workbooks that students write in directly and that are no longer usable after one school year.
Many schools are switching
It is striking that schools are massively joining the new cooperative schoolbook publisher Neon. Almost 1400 schools have joined, serving more than 650,000 students. That is about a quarter of all students in primary and secondary education.
More sustainable and lower costs
Schools say that the current method with disposable books leads not only to high costs but also unnecessary paper waste. By making different choices in teaching materials, schools hope to manage their budget more efficiently and reduce harm to the environment.
