Summer holiday at primary school: 5 things you can do with your child.
The summer holiday has (almost) started! During the summer holiday your child can get away from the school rhythm and do fun things. At the same time it can be a challenge to entertain yourself for six weeks. Here you read 5 things you can do together with your child.
Make a holiday wish list together
Start the holiday with a “what do you want to do this summer?” list. Think of things like building a hut, going to the beach or trying a new hobby. Pick a fun moment to make the list together and decorate it for example with happy stickers and markers. Also fun: check off together what you already did!
A mini adventure every day
Big does not always mean better. Small adventures are also very fun (and often cheap). For example:
- Bake pancakes together
- Have a water fight in the garden
- A treasure hunt in the neighborhood
- Make a campfire in a fire basket
Learning while playing is also fun
Your child keeps developing during the holiday, especially by playing. A few ideas:
- Let your child do the shopping and calculate with money
- Play language games like hangman or guess what I am
- Build a city together from for example Lego or cardboard and make up a story
Let your child be the boss once in a while
Give your child the chance to think up and organize a morning or afternoon themselves. What do they want to do? What do you eat together? What game must not be missing? For example, let your child plan, prepare and take a picnic to the park or garden.
Children love to be ‘the boss’ sometimes and you get a fun day back!
Sometimes do nothing
Not every day has to be fully planned. Rest can even lead to more creativity and independence in your child. Give space to think up something by themselves, without steering right away. You will see that often the nicest ideas and activities come from this.
Have a nice holiday!
