May holiday: 5 ideas to do at home or nearby.

The may holiday is the moment to break free from the school rhythm. But filling two weeks can sometimes be a puzzle. Luckily, there are plenty of fun things you can do with your child(ren)! Hopefully these tips give you inspiration for a well-filled may holiday.

Make a themed day

Choose one theme together and match (part of) the day to it. Choose an activity, food and drink, music or a movie or series that fit this theme.

We already give you a few examples:

• Italy day: make pizza together, put on Italian music, watch a movie (Pinocchio for example!)
• Nature day: collect leaves, look for insects, visit a picking garden, redraw what you have seen
• Sports day: mini Olympic games in the garden or park

Learn something new

Children often like to learn and be able to do something new. And it is of course very nice to learn this together! For example, learn:

• The handstand
• Make a simple dish (pancakes, smoothies, muffins)
• Draw your favorite animal
• A popular dance and make a cool video of it

Go on an adventure in the Netherlands

You don’t have to go far for something special. Agree to go somewhere you have not been before. There is a lot to do in the Netherlands!

• Go to a beautiful nature area to have a picnic
• Visit a new city you have not been to yet and see the sights
• Go to a famous tourist attraction like Madurodam, Keukenhof or the Efteling.

Start a new project

Start something your child can fully focus on for a few days. Such a holiday project can be:

• Building a (tree) hut
• Drawing a comic
• Making your own shop or museum at home. With you as an enthusiastic visitor of course!
• Planning, organizing and performing a play for family

Do something together for someone else

Doing something for someone else can give a lot of satisfaction. Fun and nice to spend time on in the holidays. There are plenty of things you can do for others. A small or big gesture both work! You can for example:

• Decorate a nice card together for grandpa, grandma or the neighbors
• Bake cookies together and give them out in the neighborhood
• Sort out old stuff and donate it to the thrift store
