Stress for final exam students: the result today.
Today is the day: thousands of secondary school students across the country hear if they have passed their final exam. For many families, this is an exciting day full of hope, nerves, and maybe uncertainty.
Schools usually announce the results in the afternoon. Often this happens by phone or via a personal message from the mentor. For students (and their parents) this means a long, nerve-wracking day of waiting.
What if your child passed?
Has your child passed? Congratulations! That is a great achievement you can be proud of. After the results, signing the report card usually follows quickly and, of course, celebrating the success. Remember that sometimes practical matters still need to be arranged, such as enrolling in an mbo, hbo, or wo program.
And in case of less good news…
Not every student passes at the first try. If your child has (still) not passed, that is of course a disappointment. Fortunately, there are often still options. Many students may retake exams to still pass. The school provides more information about this.
In such a situation it is important to calmly look at the options together:
- Which subjects can be retaken?
- What is needed to still pass?
- Is extra support helpful?
A special day
Whether the result is positive or disappointing: it is often a day full of emotions. Happiness, relief, and pride. But sometimes also sadness or frustration. Give your child the space to express those feelings and try to look ahead together.
