Partnership tailored education.

When your child needs extra support at school, the partnership tailored education often plays an important role. But what is it exactly? And what do they do to make sure your child has a suitable place at a school?

Partnership tailored education

Every region in the Netherlands has two partnership tailored educations: one for primary education and one for secondary education. All schools must be part of it, except cluster 1 and 2 schools. In primary education, this partnership consists of regular primary schools, schools for special primary education, and schools for special education of clusters 3 and 4. In secondary education, the partnership consists of regular education: vmbo, havo and vwo, the practical education track, and schools for secondary special education.

Support and transfer

The partnership tailored education handles the allocation of extra help at school. Even if your child moves to special education, you will deal with this partnership. The school where your child is registered makes a request. The partnership then decides how they can best help your child based on the support plan.

Sharing expertise

Because all schools are in one partnership, expertise can be used well. Schools know each other’s offers, knowledge, and experience. They can use this to help a pupil at their own school. Personal data can usually only be shared with the consent of the parents.

The partnership and parents

You can contact the partnership tailored education if you have questions about extra support for your child, or if you have trouble finding a suitable place. The partnership is, after the school itself, the first contact point about tailored education. Each partnership has a parent and youth support point for information and help in finding the right education offer.

Support plan

The money for tailored education in the region goes to the partnership. Schools make agreements together about guidance and support in the region. They record these agreements in a support plan. The support plan is made in the so-called agreement-focused consultation. It includes at least:

  • Which guidance and support all schools in the region provide at minimum: the basic support.
  • The procedure and criteria for placement in special (primary) education.
  • The procedure and policy for pupils who move back from special (primary) education to regular education.
  • The distribution, use, and allocation of funds for support.
  • How a consistent offer is organized for all pupils.
  • The results of education for pupils with support needs.
  • How parents are informed.

You can usually find the support plan on the partnership’s website.

Support plan council

Parents also have a formal role in the partnership. In the support plan council, parents discuss the content of the support plan. They have approval rights over the plan’s content.

Agreements about basic support

An important task of the partnership tailored education is making agreements about basic support. But how do you know if that basic support is actually given? And how do you see the full offer? These questions came up during the webinar on June 20, 2022. Experts Floor Kaspers (from OCO) and Marieke Boon (Ouders & Onderwijs) give you the answers. Watch the webinar below.
