Staff outside the classroom.
Besides the person teaching your child, many staff members help the teacher and students. There are different contact points within the school. Staff members are also available for students who need extra care or support. Your child's teacher is often the first contact point. The school governing body and the management are responsible for the school.
Contact point for student and parents
If there are problems at school, the teacher is the first contact point. Students and parents can also turn to the following staff:
- Mentor: at secondary school, each student has a mentor who is the first contact point for students and parents.
- Department or team leader: this is the contact if you cannot agree with the teacher or mentor.
- Confidential advisor: you or your child can talk confidentially with this person about sensitive issues like bullying or sexting.
- Dean: the contact at secondary school for profile choice and further education options.
Extra help with learning
Some children need extra help with learning, behavior, or social-emotional development. Each school has an internal support coordinator (primary school) or a care coordinator (secondary school). Some schools also have a remedial teacher to support students who struggle with specific subjects.
The school management
The school management includes the principal and the school governing body. Large school governing bodies with many schools often also have a manager responsible for some of the schools.
- The principal is responsible for the daily running of the school. Sometimes an assistant principal takes over parts of the principal’s tasks.
- The school governing body manages the organization that the school belongs to. It is formally the authority and is the employer of the principal and other school staff.
School leader register primary education
The principal of a primary school is important for the quality of the school. A school leader diploma shows if someone can lead a teacher team. You can check in the school leader register if your child’s primary school principal is registered.
Declaration of Admissibility
Almost all staff at the school need a declaration of admissibility. This includes staff who do not teach students.
