Talk with school.

To solve a problem or complaint, the school staff are the first contact point. First talk to the teacher, internal support coordinator or mentor to find a solution. If that does not help, the confidential advisor or the director is the next step. The last internal step is to send a letter to the school governing body.

Talk with school

When a parent has a complaint about the way the school works, it is wise to talk to the school. Usually, the responsible person in the school is the teacher, but it can also be the internal support coordinator, care coordinator, mentor or team leader. Make an appointment to discuss the problem.

If a parent cannot solve the issue with the teacher, the next step is higher in the organization. In primary education, this is usually the (deputy) director. In secondary education, this is often the mentor or team leader and then the (deputy) director or rector.

Confidential advisor

If you cannot solve a problem or if it is very sensitive, a parent can contact the confidential advisor at school. The problem can then be discussed in confidence. The confidential advisor talks with the parent about what steps can be taken to solve the situation. The confidential advisor can work inside the school or independently outside. The contact details are in the school guide.

School governing body

If there is still no solution, you can contact the school governing body and present your complaint. You may find a solution during a meeting with the school governing body. A school governing body can handle a complaint. The complaints procedure is in the school guide. Schools often join a national complaints committee. If you cannot solve the problem with the school governing body, you can go there.

School participation council

In some cases, parents can also contact the parent section of the school participation council. This council has a right to agree or advice on many subjects. They can also use their right to raise topics. The school participation council does not mediate in individual cases but looks at policy after a complaint or remark.
