tasks internal support coordinator at school
An internal support coordinator is responsible for safety at school in case of an incident or emergency:
- This person gives first aid in accidents.
- This person is responsible for preventing and fighting fires.
- This person is responsible for preventing and helping with accidents.
- This person alerts everyone in the school, for example in case of fire or gas leak.
number of internal support coordinators at school
Every school must have at least one internal support coordinator. This is clear in the labor law. It is also said that schools must take effective measures for internal support. This can be done in different ways. That is why the number of internal support coordinators is not set by law. The school safety plan tells how your school has arranged this.
important points
The school governing body must make sure internal support is well arranged in the school building. Because every school location is different, the setup of internal support must be customised. The labor law gives some general guidance:
- Based on the risk inventory and evaluation the school looks at what is needed.
- It is wise to train at least two staff members per school building as internal support coordinators. Then there is always one available during illness, holidays, changed schedules or commitments outside school.
- The makeup of staff and students and the school level also affect the number of internal support coordinators. Younger children, for example, need different support than older children.
- Take into account how fast professional emergency services can arrive. If the school is more remote or is in a busy and hard-to-reach place, more internal support coordinators are wise.
- The size and complexity of the school building also matter. A large school needs more internal support coordinators.
- The school must make sure internal support coordinators can do their work well. Current collective labor agreements set extra conditions to support internal support coordinators.
first aid
There is no rule to have a first aid officer at school. At schools without a first aid officer, the internal support coordinator is the contact person for accidents and emergencies.
