More attention to signals at inspection.

10 January 2019 News

The education inspectorate has announced measures to take parents' signals more seriously. We are very happy about this. Besides taking parents seriously, we also ask for personal feedback to parents. Now parents do not know enough about what happens with their report.

Study on education inspectorate functioning

After the problems around the exams at VMBO Maastricht, critical questions were asked about the supervision of the education inspectorate. An investigation was done and it showed several recommendations for improvement. One recommendation is the way the inspectorate handles signals from, for example, parents can improve.

Signals from parents

The education inspectorate reviewed the study and announced it will now handle these signals differently. These are the changes:

  • Incoming signals are registered differently and regularly passed on to the department in charge. Signals can now be linked more easily so there is better overview.
  • Incoming signals are discussed monthly at management level.
  • Parents can find in the inspection report which topics have been discussed and what agreements the education inspectorate made with the school governing body.
  • Inspection research pays more attention to exams.

Parents see problems first

Parents must be able to trust that education at a school is good. However, this is not always the case and parents often notice that first. We think it is good that the education inspectorate pays more attention to signals from parents. We also think it is important that parents know what happens at the education inspectorate with their report. Ouders & Onderwijs talks about this with the education inspectorate.
