School in Zeist: Parents can temporarily not view grades.
A secondary school in Zeist temporarily does not show parents grades in the Magister app. The school wants to reduce pressure to perform and let students choose when to share their results.
Parents can no longer see grades
At the Jordan Montessori Lyceum in Zeist, parents cannot see their children’s grades in Magister for the next two months. The school hopes to reduce pressure to perform among students. Teacher Stijn Uittenbogaard, who researched pressure to perform, saw that students felt more stressed because their parents could follow everything.
It is good if children get more control.
Pressure to perform among children
The Landelijk Ouderpanel of Ouders & Onderwijs also did research about pressure to perform this year. It showed that two out of five parents noticed that their child suffers from pressure to perform. Lobke Vlaming, director of Ouders & Onderwijs, says she is very curious about the results of the experiment. She also says that parents want a trusting bond with their child. If children can share their grades when they want, it strengthens this bond.
