Special edition state of families 2025.

15 October 2025 News

In the week of upbringing foundation Voor Werkende Ouders launches a special edition of their annual report the state of families 2025. It is called state of families 2025: parenthood and raising children. Read more here.

More parents feel stress

The state of families 2025: parenthood and raising children shows that more parents feel stress. Many parents in the Netherlands balance work, care, parenting and raising children, while social pressure is increasing. Lack of sleep, high costs, performance pressure, poor leave and high childcare costs pile up. This makes parents feel exhausted and like they are not doing enough.

Stress is often seen as “normal” in parenthood, but the impact on mental health, children and family life is big. Parents want lasting solutions: better facilities, more leave options, attention at work and strong local support networks.

Parents want to be heard

Parents also speak out clearly about parent democracy: they want to be heard. People talk about parents too often and with parents too little. This signal led foundation Voor Werkende Ouders to set up Stem van Ouders. There they do exactly this: talk with parents. They connect parents with politics, media and society.

State of Families 2025: Parenthood and Raising Children

Together with the Netherlands Center Youth Health, Association Social Childcare and Wij Media, Voor Werkende Ouders made the state of families this year. Almost 9,000 parents filled in the questions.
