Videos: Parents & Onderwijs joins the House of Representatives.

16 January 2025 News

During a roundtable discussion on January 16, 2025, the House of Representatives discusses how to organize education better. Parents & Onderwijs wrote a letter about this earlier. The director of Parents & Onderwijs, Lobke Vlaming, joins and makes concrete proposals.

What is the problem?

School governing bodies have grown a lot in recent years, which has benefits like lower purchasing costs and more expertise outside the school itself. Yet many parents and teachers feel unheard. School governing bodies are often too far from what happens in the classroom, and teachers have less direct say in their work. This leads to dissatisfaction among these groups.

What needs to change?

Parents & Onderwijs makes several concrete proposals in a letter to the House of Representatives, such as:

  • Make sure school governing bodies and classes do not become too large.
  • Give school leaders and directors more influence and strengthen the role of parents through school participation councils.
  • Develop a long-term plan with a clear vision of the future of education, focusing on better cooperation and inclusion.

More involvement, better schools

According to Parents & Onderwijs, it is time for a different approach: fewer complicated rules and more focus on cooperation between management, teachers, and parents. Watch the full input from Lobke Vlaming during the roundtable discussion (spread over four different videos).
