Autumn holiday: fun ideas for dry and wet days.
It is autumn break again! Luckily, you don’t have to spend money or lots of time to make it a fun week. In this article, you will find ideas for dry days, rainy days, and everything in between.
Enjoy going outside
In autumn, it is very beautiful outside. The leaves turn yellow, orange, and red. Go to the forest, the dunes, or the Veluwe and make it a scavenger hunt. Who finds the first acorn? Who finds the most beautiful chestnut or the biggest leaf?
The national forest service and nature monuments often organize activities for children during the holiday, such as mushroom walks. Check their websites to see what is happening near you.
Is it raining? Then put on boots and a raincoat and jump through the puddles. Afterwards, have a cup of hot chocolate, and the walk is a success.
Crafting and cooking together
Is it too wet to go outside? Then bring autumn inside. Carving out a pumpkin and cutting a funny face in it is always fun. Small children can help with a spoon. Older children can cut themselves, but parents should stay close.
With leaves, chestnuts, and twigs, children can make beautiful things, like a leaf wreath or a chestnut animal. Then make pumpkin soup together or bake an apple pie.
A day out
Many museums, amusement parks, and zoos have special programs during the holiday. Often there is also something around Halloween. Note: at busy places, there can be long waiting times. Therefore, buy your tickets online and preferably go on a weekday. If the weather is bad, the swimming pool, climbing hall, bowling alley, and cinema are good choices.
Close to home
A fun outing does not have to be far away. Go to the petting zoo, the library, or a playground in another neighborhood. Take a bike ride with a picnic in your bag. Or fly a kite together in an open field or on the beach. You can also invite school friends for a scavenger hunt or a game afternoon.
Cozy at home
A good holiday does not have to be full every day and at home, you can do many fun things too. You can build a fort of blankets and pillows and read a book together there, play a game, or make it a cozy movie afternoon with popcorn. This way, a gray rainy day becomes a nice day.
Have fun and enjoy your autumn break!
Tip: always check the website of the place you want to go to first. This way you know the opening hours and if there is a special holiday program.
