Special primary education.
Special primary education is for pupils who cannot manage in regular primary school. It concerns pupils with learning problems and/or behavioural problems. The children can have several help needs at the same time. For example, children with ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, autism, or children who have trouble learning.
For whom
Special primary education is for pupils with light problems that regular primary school cannot support. These are children with parenting and behavioural problems and children who find learning very difficult.
More attention
At a special primary school there is more time and attention for your child. The groups are smaller: about 15 pupils in a class. This makes the class calmer. Your child gets more attention from the teacher and has fewer distractions. Also, the school has more expertise. There are specially trained staff, such as a psychologist, play therapist or speech therapist.
The education
Special primary education falls under the special primary education and the law on primary education, like regular primary schools. This means your child gets the same lessons. But there is more time to learn the material. Your child may stay at the special primary school until the end of the school year in which they turn 14. Your child can go to the next school earlier if you and the school agree it is possible. Most children go to a regular secondary school after special primary education.
Admission and returning
Not every child can go to a special primary school. Admission needs a declaration of admissibility from the partnership tailored education. If your child is doing well at special primary education, your child can sometimes return to regular education. You can also ask the partnership tailored education for this.
