Autism.
Children with autism spectrum disorder have trouble with social communication, have limited interests, and show repetitive behavior. The disorders PDD NOS and Asperger are examples.
What is autism?
Autism is a developmental disorder. The development of children with this disorder is different from other children. They find it hard to process information. This can make them angry or cause them to withdraw. A child with autism often makes little or difficult contact. Children with this disorder can be focused on one topic or activity. These children are sensitive to triggers that cause stress and fear.
Autism is seen as one disorder (autism spectrum disorder), with severe or less severe signs. In the past, people spoke of different autism spectrum disorders, like classic autism, Asperger, or PDD NOS. You may still hear these old names, for example in talks with other parents, teachers, or doctors.
