What does a confidential inspector at the education inspection do?

The confidential inspector handles sensitive matters. Parents, students, and schools can contact the confidential inspector for advice and information. The inspector thinks with you and helps you decide what to do. The inspector must keep the information you give secret by law.

The confidential inspectors work for all education: primary education, secondary education, mbo, hbo, and university.

You cannot file a complaint or ask for mediation with the confidential inspector. For this, see the complaints procedure of the school.

When can you contact the confidential inspector?

You can contact the confidential inspectors of the education inspection when there is a serious situation.

You can contact the confidential inspector if there are problems at school with:

  • Sexual harassment or sexual abuse (sex crimes)
  • Physical or psychological violence
  • Severe bullying
  • Discrimination
  • Radicalization

Does a confidential inspector have a duty of care?

Yes. The confidential inspector of the education inspection must by law keep secret what he discusses with parents, students, and schools about possible sex crimes.

The confidential inspector is exempt from the reporting obligation and does not have to report a possible sex crime.
