Mbo level 2: basic vocational education.

The mbo has four different levels. The diploma your child earned earlier decides at which mbo level they can enroll. Level 2 is the basic vocational training and follows the entrance training. What are the admission requirements? What does your child learn? And what can your child do with the diploma? Read it in this article.

Who is the mbo level 2 training for?

Your child can follow an mbo 2 training if they have completed an entrance training or if they hold at least a vmbo-basic diploma. Students with a promotion certificate from three to four havo or vwo also meet the conditions for an mbo 2 training. If your child does not meet these conditions, an admission test is an option. The training lasts one or two years.

Content of the mbo level 2 training

At a level 2 training, your child mainly learns practical subjects that help with work. Your child will be trained for jobs that involve hands-on work. For example, as an assistant. Your child follows the vocational training path beroepsopleidende leerweg (bol) or the vocational guidance path beroepsbegeleidende leerweg (bbl). Not every mbo school offers both paths. Some have only a bol or only a bbl training. When choosing, it is important to check how this is at your child’s mbo school.

After the training

After earning an mbo level 2 diploma, your child can start working. If your child wants to keep studying after level 2, it is possible to move on to an mbo training at level 3, which is the vocational training.
