Register for mbo education.

If your child has found an mbo study, there is basically nothing stopping the start of the course. There is a right of admission. Are there no conditions then? There are. The student must register before 1 April and take part in compulsory intake activities. Read all about registration and admission to an mbo course.

Register for mbo course before 1 April

Is your child going to mbo? Then they must register at the mbo course before 1 April. Only if your child registers on time does the right of admission apply. Earlier registration is of course also possible. For popular courses it is even recommended because the course may otherwise be full. If your child registers later, the mbo school may refuse your child. Discuss the choice with your child, visit open days and the study adviser can also help with choosing a course.

Right of admission

The right of admission means the school must accept your child for the chosen course. To qualify for the right of admission, your child must:

  • Register at the mbo course before 1 April. Courses may not refuse students who register before 1 April by selecting based on grades or motivation.
  • Meet the prior education requirements.
  • Take part in the compulsory intake activities.
  • Meet any additional requirements. Some courses can set extra requirements. These are listed on the course website.

Intake activities

Each course has intake activities. It varies by course which activities are offered. For example, a trial lesson or an intake interview. The intake activities give your child an idea about the course and help decide if the course is suitable. For many courses, one or more intake activities are compulsory. Without participation, the mbo may refuse your child for the course. You can find which intake activities the course offers by 1 February at the latest on the course website. An intake activity may not be a selection procedure. Your child may not be refused because an intake was not completed properly.

Study choice advice

Your child has the right to a written study choice advice if they take part in the intake activities and register before 1 April. This advice states if a chosen course suits your child or if another choice is wiser. The course looks at motivation, interest, and background. The advice is not binding. Your child can still register for any course. Refusal based on the advice is not allowed. Does your child want study choice advice? Students do not get this automatically and must request it from the course.
