Ban on mobile phones, justified or not? Join the discussion.
There was a lot of talk in recent days about mobile phones in class. Minister Wiersma of education will talk to schools about possibly banning them. But what do you think? Should schools allow phones in class or not? Speak out in our short poll.
Mobile phones in class, yes or no?
Some parents think phones should be banned in class or even in the whole school. They say it distracts children too much. Others point out the benefits. It can be good for children to learn digital skills early. We want to hear your opinion. This survey is for all parents with a child aged 10 to 18 in primary or secondary education. It only takes a few questions. Taking part takes just 2 minutes.
What is the current situation?
Right now, schools can decide for themselves if mobile phones are allowed in class or not. Members of parliament Peters (CDA) and Beertema (PVV) said this week in the debate that they would prefer a ban. They support a motion submitted for a ban. Although Minister Wiersma thinks it is up to schools to develop policy, he finds the current situation confusing. Especially because one teacher encourages phone use in class and another does not.
What next?
The aim is for the ministry of education to help schools answer the question of whether phones are allowed or not. But Wiersma wants to take it a step further. He leaves it to the House of Representatives to decide. The minister promised to talk soon with teachers, students, and parents. But you can already make your voice heard. We make sure your opinion reaches the minister.
