Campaign ‘School costs: who pays what?’.
On saturday 28 august our campaign 'School costs: who pays what?' starts. The consumer program 'Kassa' gives the starting signal. Many parents ask themselves: who must pay these costs? Which school costs are for the school and which for us as parents? Why does the amount of the parental contribution differ so much at different schools? And how voluntary is that parental contribution actually?
The reason for the campaign is a law change from August 1. Children cannot be excluded from activities anymore, even if parents do not pay the voluntary parental contribution. And that is a good thing. With the new law, all children can join, and no one is excluded from school trips and other activities.
Other school costs
But what about the other school costs? Are these mandatory or voluntary? And what can a school charge parents? Many parents receive a big bill every year with all kinds of school costs. Often, parents are also expected to buy a laptop, dictionaries, and various materials.

Start research school costs
But many questions remain. That is why we start research on this theme. We want to know how much money you spend on school, what you pay for, and what you think about it. We also want you to be aware of the new rules around the voluntary parental contribution. Therefore, we call on all parents to join our research. With the results, we get a good insight into the differences between schools, the amount of school costs, and the activities that schools use the parental contribution for. And we can start the discussion with politics and the education sector.
