News
The schools are open again. Pupils in regular primary education, special education, and secondary education are going back to school. Due to corona, there are measures in all schools. Education looks different because of this. We asked parents in the Landelijk Ouderpanel which measures apply, how education is given, and how schools inform parents. Most parents do not support extra corona measures at school.
Majority of parents do not want stricter corona measures at school
A large majority of parents (75%) does not support stricter corona measures at school. Parents especially do not want to make wearing a face mask mandatory (77%) or taking children’s temperature (76%). They also do not like keeping 1.5 meters distance or halving class sizes. There is a difference between primary and secondary school. Parents with children in secondary school more often support stricter measures than parents with children in primary school.

Parents do think there should be good ventilation and that schools need to invest in a well-working ventilation system. It is notable that 34% of parents do not know if ventilation works well at school. 11% think it is (very) badly arranged, and 42% think it is well arranged.

Parents see a limited risk of corona infection at school
Most parents estimate the risk of corona infection at school as low (61%). 11% worry a lot to seriously and find the risk (too) big. Parents of children in secondary school worry more than parents with children in primary school. At secondary school, 44% of parents see a risk of corona infection, compared to 29% of parents in primary school.

Parents would like a mix of physical and remote lessons
Most parents (52%) want their child to go to school normally and attend all lessons at school as long as the corona crisis lasts. 22% want a mix of physical lessons at school and learning at home. Parents from secondary schools like a combination of physical and remote lessons more (31%) than parents with children in primary school (17%).

99% of parents let children go back to school
Almost all children return to school fully after the summer holiday. Only 1% of parents do not let their child go to school (yet). Usually this is because the child or a family member is in a risk group.
Most schools have informed parents about reopening and the measures to prevent corona infection. Three quarters of parents are (very) satisfied with this communication.

Be flexible with the duty of care
Now schools are fully open again, the duty of care is also fully active. Most parents agree with this (76%). Half of the parents say that schools and the duty of care officer must be flexible with parents who fear corona infection at school.
