Final end math test.

15 July 2020 News

This summer, it became clear that the math test in secondary education will end retroactively. The Senate agreed to abolish it, while the House of Representatives had done so earlier. But what does this mean in practice?

The law to abolish the math test was introduced retroactively from August 1, 2019. The aim is that the math test material will be included in the math subject and tested within this subject.

Criticism

This matches the wish of many parties in the House of Representatives, who think more should be done on good math education. The criticism of the math test was that it counted too much in the pass-fail rule and was too decisive for passing or failing the diploma.

Separate school exam

There will be a separate school exam for students who do not have math. This concerns the following students:

– Havo students who follow the Culture & Society exam profile and do not take an exam in math A or B;

– Vmbo students from all four learning paths who follow an economics or care and welfare profile and do not take a math exam;

– Students from vmbo-bb who follow a learning-work path and do not take a math exam.
