Final exams start.
After a long preparation, they really have to show what they can do this week. The final exams begin. But what were the changes to the exam rules this year? Where can practice material be found? When is the result announced? We list all the answers to these questions for you.
The coronavirus continues to have a big impact on education. That is why some measures apply for the 2022 exam year to organize more time and flexibility around the exams.
What is different this year?
Below we list the main rules:
- One non-core subject may be canceled by the student, called the thumb rule. It may not be a core subject, such as Dutch, English, or math for havo/vwo and Dutch for vmbo. The final grade of the canceled subject does not count towards the result, but remains visible on the report card.
- All diploma candidates in regular secondary education and vavo get not one, but two retakes for the central exams. This concerns two different subjects. Diploma candidates of the state exam may retake up to two different subjects if this helps them get their diploma.
- Students can spread the central exams over two periods, with a third period for retakes. The first final exam period runs from May 12 to May 30, the second from June 13 to June 25. Students can choose to take all their exams in the first period or move some to the second period.
- There is a longer exam period for flexible and digital vmbo exams bb and kb and the centrally written and practical exams (cspe). The exam period runs until July 22, 2022.
- For vmbo, not three or four, but two parts of the vocational profile subject are taken with a centrally written and practical exam (cspe). The other two parts are completed with a school exam. The profile parts that will be taken as a central exam are still to be assigned. It still has to be decided how this affects the final score.
Changes in the state exam
There were already changes for diploma candidates taking the state exam. These are the following:
- Students may take a confidant to the oral exam.
- Diploma candidates in the state exam may retake two subjects. Only if retaking these helps them pass for their diploma.
Support for students
If students want to prepare better, the platform Learning for the Exam offers help. On the website there is extra information for almost all subjects, such as explanations about the exam material. Final exam students can practice with old exams and consult summaries.
