Minister Slob wants students to start in a bridging class that suits their skills and possibilities. Ouders & Onderwijs wants to help with this. We developed a form for adjusting school advice together with the PO-Raad and VO-raad. Schools can add this form to the transfer file.

No final test this year

Normally primary schools register pupils for a secondary school based on their school advice. Adjustment of this advice can be made based on the results of the final test. Due to the corona crisis, however, the final test will not take place. As a result, the initial advice from the primary school is final. Any adjustment seems difficult.

Letter from the minister

In a letter, minister Slob asks primary and secondary education for ‘extra effort’. He pleads for a start meeting between the secondary school, pupils, and parents. Furthermore, he calls on secondary schools to ‘admit pupils generously and place them with good opportunities’ and to ‘consider offering (more) broad and extended first-year classes’. This way, pupils should have more chances to change classes.

Form expected adjustment of school advice

Ouders & Onderwijs developed together with the PO-Raad and VO-Raad a form that can be added to the transfer file. Schools and/or parents can indicate on this whether they think the final test result would have caused a reconsideration or adjustment of the school advice. The school can also give a placement recommendation for the type of first-year class in the form.

Letter from Ouders & Onderwijs

Earlier, Ouders & Onderwijs together with other parent organizations sent a letter to minister Slob, advising to require primary schools to reconsider the school advice. With the form, schools and/or parents can now report the expected adjustment of the school advice.
