House of representatives votes for minimum internship allowance.

Last Tuesday the House of Representatives approved a motion for a minimum internship allowance for all students. They currently do not receive a fair or any allowance for the work they do during their internship. A majority in the House of Representatives now wants to end this and voted for a motion by member of parliament Lisa Westerveld (GroenLinks).

In The Coalition Agreement Of VVD, CDA, D66 And ChristenUnie It Was Also Stated That Agreements Must Be Made About A Suitable Internship Allowance. Moreover, Recent Research By The Intercity Student Consultation (ISO) Showed That Four In Ten Hbo And University Students Do Not Receive An Internship Allowance. Even Fewer Students Would Receive An Allowance In Mbo.

The Motion Asks The Government To Make Agreements Together With Student Unions, Educational Institutions And Businesses About Including A Minimum Internship Allowance. This Must Be In The Cao And At Least Cover The Costs. Furthermore, The Cabinet Must First Focus On A Minimum Internship Allowance For Mbo Students. Minister Dijkgraaf Must Implement The Motion And Will Return To The House Of Representatives With A Proposal After Discussions.
