Initiative note ‘Education with parents’ presented by cda and sgp.
The CDA and the SGP presented the initiative note 'Education with Parents' on Monday, 30 October. The note aims to bring parent involvement back prominently on the political and social agenda.
The initiative note, presented by René Peters (CDA) and Roelof Bisschop (SGP), is the result of talks with several parties involved, including Ouders & Onderwijs. The two departing members of parliament spoke with schools, stakeholders, and organizations such as VOS/ABB, the PO- and VO-Council, the Reformed Parents Association, and profile organizations such as Verus, VGS, and VOO.

The talks between René Peters and various stakeholders were recorded as a podcast. You can listen to the conversation with Lobke Vlaming, director of Ouders & Onderwijs, here. In addition, a new episode is published daily on René Peters’ channel. In total, 10 episodes were recorded.
Less parent involvement
Lobke Vlaming emphasizes the importance of parent involvement in education. In the conversation with René Peters, Vlaming explains: ‘In the past, parents had a specific role in governance and were co-owners of the education. In practice, this involvement is now less common, partly due to scaling up and the professionalization we aimed for, but this has also had negative effects. It has led to a greater distance between the classroom level – the teachers, parents, and children – and the governance level. As a result, involvement has decreased.’
