Investigation into abolishing voluntary parent contribution.
Earlier, the House of Representatives spoke with the education ministers about the education budget for 2024. We already wrote this news article about. Several motions were submitted during the debate and have now also been voted on. These include some remarkable tasks for the ministers. For example, the House of Representatives wants them to discuss the continuous schedule and statutory minimum internship payment . The ministers are also investigating abolishing the voluntary parent contribution.
Parent contribution
Earlier, parliament members Beckerman (SP) and Pijpelink (GreenLeft-PvdA) already indicated they want to abolish the voluntary parent contribution. Education, student, and parent organizations sent the House of Representatives a letter about this. This letter asks to abolish the parent contribution in primary education. The SP, D66 and GreenLeft-PvdA together submitted a motion. This motion asks the minister to check whether abolishing the parent contribution is possible. This motion has now been approved.
Happy with the attention
The parent contribution is always voluntary. Many parents do not feel this way. Students are not excluded from extra activities if their parents do not pay the parent contribution. A law from GreenLeft and the SP was approved earlier on this. By abolishing the parent contribution, we take the next step towards free education for all children.
We closely follow the minister’s research and execution and are happy with the continued attention to school costs for parents.
All submitted plans can be found on the website of the House of Representatives. Do you want to stay informed about what happens in education and politics?
