Join the conversation about school participation council.

9 February 2023 News

How do you make sure plans better fit the education practice? And what is the role of the school participation council in this? To help answer these questions, parents can join a broad conversation about governance and school participation council in primary and secondary education.

The coalition agreement promises to improve education quality and strengthen the school participation council of school leaders, teachers, parents and students. On behalf of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, research agency Regioplan, together with CAOP and Leeuwendaal, runs a study on governance and school participation council in primary and secondary education. They do this by holding a broad conversation about roles and responsibilities inside and around the school. They need your help! Join and share your experience.

Strengthening school participation council

What do the roles and responsibilities inside and around the school look like and how do they relate to each other? And how does the current governance structure work in school organizations? To learn more, talks are held with all players in education: from teaching staff, parents and students to school leaders and governors, but also with municipalities and Partnership Tailored Education. The results of this study help rewrite roles and expectations. The outcomes also form the base for implementing four coalition agreement tasks: so new plans are coming. Your opinion can make a difference.

Themes

During the talks, five themes are discussed:

  1. Governance structure of school organizations

(What structure does the school organization have?)

  1. Strengthening participation rights

(How can teachers, school leaders and school participation council members help decide?)

  1. Investments at the classroom

(How is the money that the school has spent?)

  1. Role and position of the school leader

(What is the role of the school leader and how can they fill this best?)

  1. Accountability

(How does the school show what the money was spent on?)
