Many mbo institutions still teach online.
Although physical lessons have been possible again for a long time, many mbo institutions continue to hold on to online education. As a result, parents see a decline in education quality and worse motivation in their child. The majority therefore want mbo institutions to offer physical lessons again. This is shown by representative research by Ouders & Onderwijs among parents with children at an mbo institution.
A total of 40% of parents indicate that the mbo institution continues to offer partly or entirely online education. The majority of parents (57%) see this as a bad thing.
Education quality
That parents prefer their child to attend the school physically is not surprising. Almost two thirds of parents see a worse education quality due to online education. And as many as 70% notice worse motivation in their child because of the online lessons. Moreover, 36% feel insufficiently informed about the online education. Compared to earlier research, this is much worse than in primary and secondary education, where only 9% feel insufficiently informed.
Study results
The effects on study results are also large. More than half of the parents (53%) see a study delay in their child. And of the parents with a child in the final year, 54% worry more because of corona about whether their child will get the diploma. In addition, almost a quarter say their child is considering stopping the study or has done so already. In mbo, there are already normally more early school leavers (5.35 percent in 2018-2019) than in secondary education.
Guidance
More than half of the parents see that their child needs extra guidance in the study for poor motivation (27%), study results or delays (25%) or Tailored Education (22%). Yet 39% of parents say their child receives insufficient guidance. And while about half of the students get enough guidance in the area of Tailored Education, guidance for motivation and lagging results is much less.
Internship
Although most internships continue normally, 32% of parents face problems around the internship because of corona. Remarkable is the attitude of many mbo institutions. As many as 43% of parents say the mbo does nothing if the internship does not take place or a place is not found. The effects are large. As many as 57% of parents whose child has problems with the internship say the student loses time because of this.
