New rules for tailored education: more voice for parents and pupils from 2025.

19 December 2024 News

From 2025 a new law starts for tailored education. The new law is called ‘Law strengthening the position of parents and pupils’. What exactly does this new law involve? Below you read the main points.

Parent and youth support points compulsory from 1 January 2025

Each Partnership Tailored Education must have a parent and youth support point from 1 January 2025. The support points are compulsory from that time. Parents and pupils can go there for independent help and information about tailored education.

Information about support will be in the school guide from 1 August 2025

From 1 August 2025 all information about support at school must be included in the school guide.

What changes?

  • The school support profile (the SOP) as a separate document disappears.
  • All information about support will now be clear in the school guide.
  • Schools must first talk with pupils about the support they offer before it is in the school guide.

Pupils speak about their development perspective plan from 1 August 2025

Children who have a development perspective plan can also speak about their support plan from 1 August 2025. Often pupils themselves have a good idea of what support they need.

They can say:

  • What help they need.
  • What they find important in their education.
  • Schools must involve them in making and changing this plan.
