Schools Must Better Inform Parents About Parent Contribution.
Minister Wiersma wants schools to communicate more clearly about the voluntary parent contribution. To do this, the Ministry of OCW published a brochure, FAQ, and visual. All are meant to better inform parents.
According To The Law, The Voluntary Parent Contribution Is Truly Voluntary. This Means That Parents Can Decide For Themselves Whether To Pay. If You Do Not Pay, Your Child Can Always Join. Both Primary And Secondary Schools May No Longer Exclude Any Child From Activities The School Organizes.
Research
Earlier Research By Leergeld Nederland Showed That Some Schools Still Require Parents To Pay The Parent Contribution. In Addition, The Education Inspectorate Recently Found That Only One Third Of School Guides State That Students May Not Be Excluded From Activities If Their Parents Do Not Pay The Contribution.
Action

The Minister Previously Explained This In A Letter To Schools As Follows: ‘The Idea Behind The Law Is That Equal Opportunity Is Not Only A Matter Of Good Education. It Also Includes Extras, Such As The Normality That Everyone Goes On The School Trip And The Ski Trip, Or Gets Extra Lessons. Students Must Feel That Everyone Counts And Belongs. Everyone Must Be Able To Join’.
