Strike announced again.

10 January 2019 News

This week it became known that teachers in all education sectors plan to strike on 15 March. In addition, teachers will probably take action in other ways that week. Note: the survey among parents in the Landelijk Ouderpanel is now closed.

More money needed to address teacher shortage

The General Education Union (AOb) and the General Association of School Leaders (AVS) see more problems arising due to the teacher shortage in education. The high workload causes many absences and a large number of teachers are at home with burnout complaints. The AOb calls for a strike, the AVS for other actions, and CNV Education waits first for talks with the government. Want to know if your school will strike or take action? Ask at the school.

Actions in February

The AVS calls on schools not to arrange replacement for sick teachers from 4 to 8 February. Children will then be sent home. They want to show that school leaders spend a lot of time on this and that it increases the workload. They also want to draw extra attention to the effects of other measures, such as dividing a group over other classes or having other staff teach.

Strike in March

The AOb demands higher salaries, more money for school materials, and fewer lessons per week. This requires 4 billion euros more every year structurally. In an overview on their website they show per education sector what should change and the costs. To enforce their demands the AOb calls all schools to strike on Friday 15 March. Also, during the whole week other actions will take place. They want to make clear to the provincial elections on 20 March that a plan is needed for education.
